About Dirkje Wigarda

Dirkje grew up in rural Netherlands and therefore it is not surprising that she developed a love for animals and nature. Her creative process started in her early years and the animals became very important for the artist. You will find it in her work regurarly. To get more inspiration she travelled to many countries. So she gained a lot of knowledge about the animal kingdom. Dirkje attaches great importance between the relationship of humans and animals which she shows a lot in her work.
Through this symbolism the paintings will have a deeper meaning. She tries to make people aware of the vulnerablility of our world heritage. Through the years she developed her fine art more and more. To improve her skills she studied the technique of the old masters of the Renaissance. She often uses this technique in her creations. Her style can be discribed both as realism and magical realism.
